The Lynx a keystone species

The lynx is a large predator that plays an important role in nature. Lynxes hunt by launching surprise attacks on prey such as roe deer, chamois, and reindeer, but they quickly give up after a short sprint. In winter, they are also capable of taking down young red deer, though fully grown red deer are too large for this 14-25 kilogram animal. Smaller prey, such as mice and birds, serve as snacks. On rare occasions, lynxes also hunt foxes, cats, and sheep.

ARK illustrator Jeroen Helmer created a beautiful drawing about the benefits these impressive animals bring to nature.
