The Golden Jackal, an unexpected arrival
The golden jackal inhabits almost any type of landscape. He benefits from improved protection. After having been restricted for millennia in Europe to the Balkans and Hungary—and even declining there—the golden jackal suddenly and spectacularly expanded its range over the past two decades, reaching The Netherlands as well. The exact reason for this expansion is still unclear, but it is certain that we must take this newcomer seriously.
