Dynamic riverside meadow

On the banks of rivers, in places where nature is left to its own devices, a paradise-like and exceptionally rich type of woodland emerges: the riverine woodland meadow. A natural forest that is very open, with a wide variety of structures. With gentle transitions from short-grazed meadows to taller scrub, bushes and trees towering high above the landscape. Lianas of hop and clematis wind their way upwards, and dead standing, hanging and fallen trees are a source of life for woodpeckers and bats, fungi and insects. Along the Grensmaas in Limburg, you can witness this wonderful process first-hand.
